About the Christian Reformed Church (CRC)

We are called Christian because we confess that we belong to Jesus Christ and want to be His followers. The Bible is our final authority for faith and life. We emphasize God’s all-powerful and loving care. And we recognize as fellow-Christians all people who accept the teachings of the Bible as summarized in the Apostle’s Creed.

We are called Reformed because we are part of that historic branch of the Christian church that came from the Protestant Reformation movement in the 1500s led by John Calvin, who struggled to return Christianity to its biblical roots.

We are called church because God has called us to be a fellowship of His people in the world. We believe that all of life is governed by our faith. Our faith in God helps us to make the important decisions in our lives and influences how we behave, not only on Sunday but every day of the week.

Our Emblem

Our emblem is the cross in a triangle. The triangle represents the Trinity, our belief in the one God we know as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The cross symbolizes our belief in Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death for our salvation.

Our Beliefs

The Word of God is central to our worship services. For this reason the focal point in our churches is the open Bible on the pulpit and the focal point in our worship together is the sermon. The songs and hymns we sing in our churches are based on the Bible.

We believe that the church is a community. We believe in the importance of the family. We encourage worship as families. And we believe that the church is the family of God and that single and married, old and young, we live as brothers and sisters under the authority, love, and care of our heavenly Father. We bear each other’s burdens, increase each other’s joys, and enrich each other’s lives.

We have a strong commitment to Christian education. Because of our concern for family and our belief that our faith is important in all areas of our lives, we support Christian day schools and colleges and offer many programs to help individuals and families grow spiritually. We want all members to be thoughtful and mature Christians.

Church Locations

Our churches can be found in cities and towns from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, from California to New Jersey. We have central offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and in Burlington, Ontario. We broadcast in radio and television from our studios in the Chicago area and our programs of Christian outreach, relief and development circle the globe.
